Xbox UK said the new StarCraft was coming to Xbox console. Blizzard then said it was not ready to announce platforms. Now the company has clarified one part of the picture: StarCraft will not be exclusive.
Kotaku received the clarification after asking Blizzard to explain the game's unusual platform messaging. A Blizzard spokesperson said the company could only confirm for now that StarCraft “won’t be exclusive”. When asked whether that meant another console would receive the game, or simply that it would also appear on PC, Blizzard did not specify. It did say that describing StarCraft as Xbox-exclusive would require a correction.
The confusion started at BlizzCon. On 12 September, Xbox UK's official account said the open-world shooter was coming to “XBOX console”. Five days later, Blizzard told Kotaku: “We are not announcing platforms today” and said platform details would be shared when ready.
The latest clarification resolves the exclusivity question more than it resolves the platform list. Xbox remains a real official platform signal, but Blizzard has still not published a complete launch-platform announcement.
That means the new statement should not be read as confirmation of PlayStation, PC, Nintendo hardware, Game Pass support or any particular Xbox generation. Those details remain undisclosed.
For now, the clearest position is simple: StarCraft is not planned as an exclusive, but Blizzard still isn't saying exactly where the game will launch.
