01 / Most asked

Most asked questions

The highest-value answers for somebody deciding whether to play now, return now or wait.

Is Grounded 2 finished?

No.

Grounded 2 is still in Game Preview/Early Access, and Obsidian says version 1.0 will contain the complete story plus everything developed through Early Access. The current game is substantial, but it should be treated as an actively changing survival game rather than a finished campaign.

When will Grounded 2 reach 1.0?

No 1.0 release date or year has been announced. Obsidian has described the destination—complete the story and complete the park—but has deliberately avoided committing to a hard Early Access exit date, so calendar forecasts remain speculation until that changes.

What is the latest Grounded 2 version?

The current live version is 0.5.1, released on 11 September 2026 for Steam, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC and PS5. It is a maintenance/progression patch on the 0.5 branch; Into the Abyss / 0.5.0 remains the latest major content update.

When is the next major update?

The next confirmed major update is planned for Fall 2026. Obsidian has not published an exact day or confirmed version number, so the safest current description is simply the Fall 2026 update.

Is Grounded 2 on PS5?

Yes.

Grounded 2 entered Early Access on PS5 on 11 August 2026 alongside Into the Abyss. That was a platform expansion during Early Access, not the game's 1.0/full-release milestone.

Confirmed[S10][S06]

Does Grounded 2 support crossplay?

Yes.

Grounded 2 supports cross-platform multiplayer across Xbox, PC and PlayStation. Crossplay uses a linked Microsoft/Xbox account, and console players still need the relevant platform online subscription.

Confirmed[S07]

Does Grounded 2 support cross-progression?

Yes, but the documentation is uneven. Obsidian directly documents progress saving between Xbox console and Xbox PC, while Game Director Chris Parker says cross-progression also spans PlayStation; detailed PS5 transfer edge cases are not yet fully covered in the support documentation.

Developer statement[S15][S07]

Is Grounded 2 on Game Pass?

Yes.

Grounded 2 is currently available through Game Pass, while Obsidian's launch FAQ specifically named Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Subscription catalogues and tier entitlements can change, so the live Xbox listing is the best check before subscribing specifically for the game.

Confirmed[S08][S11]

How many players can play together?

Up to four players can play together: one player plus up to three friends. The same survival campaign can also be played solo, so co-op is optional rather than required.

Confirmed[S22]

Do I need to finish Grounded 1 before Grounded 2?

No.

Grounded 2 is designed to work as an entry point for new players, but it is a direct sequel set two years later with returning characters, organisations and unresolved consequences from Grounded. Playing the first game gives considerably more context for the story and mysteries, even though it is not a mechanical prerequisite.

Confirmed[S13][S12]
02 / Playing now & recent changes

Playing now & recent changes

The live build, current story boundary and what changed most recently.

What is the latest major Grounded 2 update?

The latest major content update is Into the Abyss / 0.5.0, released on 11 August 2026. It substantially expanded the game with the Skunk Pond/Abyss content, underwater survival and building, new progression, new creatures and the amphibious Toe Biter Buggy.

What did 0.5.0.5 change?

Patch 0.5.0.5 focused on balance, progression and stability rather than adding a new region.

It reduced excessive aggression ranges, rebalanced the O.G.R.R. Toe Biter Leviathan encounter, fixed several progression blockers and addressed crashes including PS5 out-of-memory cases.

What changed in Grounded 2 Patch 0.5.1?

Patch 0.5.1 is a broad maintenance/progression update. It improves Buggy perception, adds Molar upgrades for Mega Milk, Milk and Moldy Milk Molars, expands the available Milk/Moldy upgrade tiers, removes Infused Ooze and changes the Tier 4 Omni-Axe recipe. It also fixes progression, multiplayer, Buggy, Abyss, MIX.R, UI and stability problems.

Confirmed[S51]
Is 0.5.0.5 the same thing as Into the Abyss?

No.

Into the Abyss is the major 0.5.0 content release; 0.5.0.5 is a later maintenance/balance patch on the same branch. That distinction matters because the numbered hotfixes refine the live update rather than representing separate major content milestones.

What is the latest playable story content?

The latest confirmed story extension is the Into the Abyss / Skunk Pond questline that follows the Network Center portion of the campaign. It advances the live narrative, but it does not complete the Grounded 2 story; Obsidian still reserves the complete story for 1.0.

Is the current story still officially Act 1?

The safest answer is that the story is still incomplete, but the exact 'Act 1' label is no longer a reliable current-state shorthand. Steam still uses launch-era Act 1 wording, yet that same Early Access description contains feature counts overtaken by later updates, so it should not be used to claim that all September 2026 content is definitively still Act 1.

Is there another patch expected before the Fall update?

Unknown. Patch 0.5.1 shipped on 11 September, but Obsidian has not confirmed whether another maintenance patch will arrive before the Fall update. The earlier 0.5.0.5 statement that the team hoped to release a bigger patch should not automatically be equated with 0.5.1 because the 0.5.1 notes do not explicitly make that link.

Unknown[S01][S51]
Is the O.G.R.R. Toe Biter Leviathan still required for the Tier 4 Omni-Axe?

Do not rely on the older 0.5.0.5 answer as current. Patch 0.5.1 removed Infused Ooze and changed the Tier 4 Omni-Axe recipe. The official note does not list the complete replacement recipe, so the exact current Leviathan requirement is not established in the governed evidence.

Unknown — current recipe changed / full detail not captured[S51]
Are creature aggression problems fully solved?

No.

Patch 0.5.0.5 made meaningful reductions to creature aggression and chase behaviour, but Obsidian described those changes as a first step. Further balance work may still arrive as the team reviews live feedback.

Confirmed[S01]
What parts of Brookhollow Park can I explore right now?

The live game now spans the original Brookhollow survival space plus major expansion areas including the Garden/Toxic Tangle content, Sinkhole Anthill/Beat the Heat progression, Skunk Pond, Bayou, Mountains and the Abyss. The world is still incomplete for 1.0, so 'large current map' and 'finished park' are not the same claim.

Can I fast travel in Grounded 2?

Yes.

Ominent PTS fast travel is part of the live traversal layer and has been expanded as the game has grown. It sits alongside Buggies and player-built ziplines, so fast travel is useful for established routes rather than replacing exploration and survival logistics.

03 / Gameplay, progression & building

Gameplay, progression & building

Buggies, traversal, underwater systems, bases, information tools and creator modes.

What are Buggies?

Buggies are rideable insect allies built into Grounded 2's exploration, combat and progression rather than simple mounts. They can be raised and ridden, help fight or gather, carry resources, and later updates added Buggy-specific progression and mutations so different Buggy families can support different play styles.

What is the current newest Buggy?

The newest live Buggy is the Toe Biter Buggy from Into the Abyss. It is amphibious, letting players use the Buggy system across both land and underwater exploration, which makes it a major part of the current pond/Abyss progression loop.

Is the Ladybug Buggy live?

Yes.

The Ladybug Buggy arrived with The Toxic Tangle. It is designed as a durable utility/support Buggy, including survivability and combat-support abilities rather than simply acting as a faster traversal mount.

Is the Black Soldier Ant Buggy live?

Yes.

The Black Soldier Ant Buggy arrived with Beat the Heat. Its introduction also pushed the broader Buggy system forward, including the progression/mutation layer that makes Buggies a developing build system rather than isolated vehicles.

Are ziplines live?

Yes.

Craftable ziplines returned with Into the Abyss through the ZIP.R system. They add player-built traversal to a game that already uses Buggies and Ominent PTS travel, so bases can be connected through several different movement systems.

Can I build underwater?

Yes.

Into the Abyss added underwater base building rather than limiting the pond to temporary diving trips. The live building set includes aquatic support systems such as Bubble Diffusers, buoyant structures and underwater stations, so players can establish functional bases beneath the surface.

Is Swimming 2.0 live?

Yes.

Swimming 2.0 is live as part of Into the Abyss. The update turns underwater exploration into a fuller progression layer with depth management, equipment, resources, combat and construction rather than treating swimming as a small traversal feature.

What is the Omni-Clipper?

The Omni-Clipper is an Into the Abyss Omni-Tool upgrade used for underwater harvesting and progression. It extends the Omni-Tool system into the new aquatic resource loop instead of requiring underwater gathering to use an entirely separate progression model.

Is PEEP.R 2K live?

Yes.

PEEP.R 2K is live and expands the information tool with resource tracking, a chopping list, compass support, zoom and first/third-person use. It is useful both for scouting creatures and for practical resource-finding during normal survival play.

Is Coziness live?

Yes.

Coziness is live and rewards well-developed bases with tiered benefits as players furnish and improve their living spaces. Later updates expanded the system, so building for comfort now has progression value rather than being purely decorative.

Is Playgrounds live?

Yes.

Playgrounds is a full creator mode for building custom maps, encounters and game modes with logic-driven gizmos, creature spawners, triggers and community sharing. Subsequent updates added more tools, Buggy Racing and custom MIX.R possibilities, so it has become a parallel creation layer alongside Survival Mode.

Is Buggy Racing live?

Yes.

Buggy Racing is live through the 0.4.1 Playgrounds/Feature Update cycle. Creators can build point-to-point or lap races with checkpoints, gates, speed boosts and hazards, and Obsidian has described that implementation as an evolving first iteration rather than a finished endpoint.

Is Custom Game 1.0 live?

Yes.

Custom Game 1.0 is part of the live Into the Abyss feature set. It expands the ways players can tune a world outside the default survival rules, but it should not be confused with Grounded 2 itself reaching version 1.0.

Are MIX.Rs repeatable?

Yes.

Into the Abyss added repeatable MIX.R behaviour to the current game. That turns MIX.R activity into a reusable combat/system loop instead of something players can only exhaust once during progression.

Does the existing archetype system still exist?

Yes.

The existing archetype/equipment system is still part of Grounded 2 and is described in current first-party/store material. What disappeared from the current roadmap was the separate future item 'New Archetypes', not the live archetype system itself.

Are archetypes fixed classes chosen at character creation?

No.

Archetypes are build and play-style guidance around concepts such as Warrior, Ranger, Mage and Rogue; they are not permanent classes locked at character creation. Gear, mutations and progression choices can be changed, so players are not committing a character to one irreversible role.

Is New Game+ live in Grounded 2?

No current first-party source establishes a live New Game+ mode in Grounded 2. Mentions in files, communities or inherited systems are not enough to treat it as shipped content, so New Game+ should remain unconfirmed unless Obsidian announces or releases it.

Is Grounded 2 on Xbox Series X|S?

Yes.

Grounded 2 is natively available on Xbox Series X|S. The Xbox release remains in Game Preview/Early Access, so console availability should not be read as evidence that development is complete.

Confirmed[S33][S08]
Is Grounded 2 on PC?

Yes.

Grounded 2 is available on Windows PC through the Xbox app and on Steam. Xbox Play Anywhere covers the Xbox-store PC version with Xbox console ownership/cross-saves; Steam is a separate storefront and account path.

Confirmed[S33][S09]
Is Grounded 2 on Xbox One?

There is no native Xbox One release listed. Xbox Cloud Gaming may allow supported subscribers to stream the current-generation version on older hardware, but cloud access is different from a locally installed Xbox One build.

Unknown[S08][S33]
Is Grounded 2 on PS4?

No native PS4 version is currently listed. The PlayStation release is for PS5, so PS4 support should not be inferred from the game's broader cross-platform multiplayer support.

Unknown[S10][S33]
Is Grounded 2 on Nintendo Switch/Switch 2?

No current first-party release for Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 has been announced. Nintendo versions therefore remain unannounced rather than 'cancelled' or technically impossible.

Unknown[S33]
Do I need a Microsoft/Xbox account for crossplay?

Yes for Grounded 2's documented cross-platform features. A linked Microsoft/Xbox account is used for crossplay, Shared Worlds and Playgrounds upload/download; if you only play within a platform without those features, the account requirement can differ.

Confirmed[S07]
Can I link more than one Microsoft/Xbox account?

Obsidian says only one Microsoft/Xbox account can be linked to the game, so choose the account carefully. That matters especially if you expect to use crossplay, Shared Worlds or progression across more than one platform.

Confirmed[S07]
Do console players need an online subscription for crossplay?

Yes.

Console players need the relevant platform-specific online-service subscription for online multiplayer/crossplay. That is separate from owning Grounded 2 itself or having a Microsoft/Xbox account.

Confirmed[S07]
Does Xbox Play Anywhere support Xbox↔PC saves?

Yes.

Grounded 2 is an Xbox Play Anywhere title: a qualifying digital purchase works on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox PC, with cross-saves between those Xbox ecosystem versions. Steam ownership is separate and is not created by a Play Anywhere purchase.

Can I move a Steam save to PS5?

Cross-progression is supported at feature level, but Obsidian does not currently publish a simple 'copy this Steam save file to PS5' process. Cross-progression, Shared Worlds and raw local save-file transfer are different mechanisms, so players moving between Steam and PS5 should rely on the supported account/world flow rather than assume direct file import.

Developer statement[S15][S07][S38]
Can I use Shared Worlds across platforms?

Yes.

Shared Worlds are included in Obsidian's current cross-platform guidance, so the same persistent-world concept can be used across supported platforms once the required accounts are linked. Shared Worlds are different from dedicated servers: the world is cloud-hosted through the game's system rather than run as a separate server product.

Confirmed[S07]
Can friends play a Shared World when the original host is offline?

Yes, that is the core purpose of Shared Worlds. Obsidian's first-party definition describes a cloud world that designated friends can continue playing while the original owner is offline, removing the normal requirement for one host to be present every session.

Confirmed[S07][S41]
Is there local co-op or split-screen?

No.

Obsidian describes Grounded 2 multiplayer/co-op as online only; local/offline co-op and split-screen are not supported. Two people on the same sofa therefore need separate supported devices/accounts for multiplayer rather than sharing one screen.

Confirmed[S08]
Is Steam Deck supported?

Yes.

Official 0.4.1 notes added Steam Deck support and moved the PC executable from WinGRTS to Win64, enabling Microsoft-account linking and online/crossplay functionality on Deck. That update caused a one-time reset of player settings, but not a general world-save wipe.

Confirmed[S18]
Is Grounded 2 PS5 Pro Enhanced?

Not yet as a formally delivered 'PS5 Pro Enhanced' final target, according to Chris Parker's August 2026 interview. He said the team intends to achieve that designation by 1.0, so it belongs in the 1.0 target set rather than the current guaranteed feature list.

Developer statement[S15]
Does Grounded 2 support DualSense haptics/adaptive triggers?

Yes.

Chris Parker says DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers are already supported on PS5. Obsidian also intends to keep refining that implementation during Early Access, so the current behaviour is not necessarily the final 1.0 tuning.

Developer statement[S15]
05 / 1.0, next update & roadmap

1.0, next update & roadmap

The path to full release, save uncertainty and what is actually planned after the current build.

Is 1.0 coming in 2027?

No official 2027 release date has been announced. Some community and media forecasts place 1.0 in 2027, but Obsidian has not committed to that year, so it should be treated as a forecast rather than a release window.

What defines 1.0 for Obsidian?

Game Director Chris Parker has described two essential conditions for 1.0: finish the complete story—including Acts 1, 2 and 3 plus endgame—and finish the park across its land and underwater spaces. Those are better indicators of 1.0 readiness than extrapolating from version numbers or seasonal roadmap labels.

Developer statement[S15]Full Release / 1.0 →
Does version 0.5 mean the game is exactly 50% complete?

No.

Version 0.5 is a software/update identifier, not an audited statement that the game is 50% complete. Story progress, map completion, system development, optimisation and remaining production work do not advance in equal numerical chunks.

Is the full story available now?

No.

The current live story reaches Into the Abyss and the Skunk Pond/Abyss progression, but Obsidian still describes the complete story as a 1.0 feature. You can play a substantial campaign now, but not its final ending.

Will there be Acts 2 and 3?

Yes, in the sense that Parker has explicitly described the completed story as Acts 1, 2 and 3 plus endgame. What is not established is the public release schedule, exact boundaries or update names that will deliver each act.

Developer statement[S15]Full Release / 1.0 →
Will Early Access saves carry into 1.0?

There is no durable public first-party guarantee that every Early Access save will migrate unchanged into 1.0. Obsidian has repeatedly patched older saves for compatibility, but a final 1.0 migration policy has not been published, so neither 'full wipe' nor 'everything carries over' should be promised.

Will there be a full save wipe at 1.0?

Unknown.

Obsidian has not announced a mandatory full save wipe for 1.0, but it also has not issued a final guarantee that every save, quest state and world structure will migrate unchanged. Until a formal migration policy is published, both extremes should be treated as unconfirmed.

Should players restart after every major update?

No general restart-after-every-update rule exists. Older worlds are normally carried forward and patches frequently include fixes for existing saves, although Early Access world changes can still create edge cases; restarting should be a troubleshooting or preference choice unless Obsidian specifically says otherwise.

Are achievements/trophies available now?

No unlockable achievement/trophy set is live yet across the platforms. Chris Parker says achievements and trophies are planned for the final 1.0 release, so their absence today is part of the Early Access state rather than evidence that the game will never support them.

Developer statement[S15]Full Release / 1.0 →
Will the price increase at 1.0?

Probably, but the final price is not announced. Steam says Grounded 2 is sold at a lower Early Access price and will likely become more expensive as it approaches 1.0, mirroring the first Grounded; that is an intention, not a fixed future price.

What is confirmed for the Fall update?

The current Fall roadmap lists Rotting Wood Pile, SCA.B 2K Flavor Schemes, the Potato Beetle Buggy, Termites, new armour, new weapons, Yoking Press, one concealed creature and one concealed building item. Those are roadmap commitments/intentions for the update, not evidence that any of them are already live.

What is confirmed for Winter?

The current Winter roadmap lists a concealed park area, Salty, new Buggies, a new story boss, new creatures, Tier IV Omni-Tool unlocks, new building materials and new buildings. The roadmap deliberately withholds some detail, so exact mechanics, identities and release timing should not be filled in from community theories.

Official plan[S04]Roadmap →
Is Winter the 1.0 release?

No connection between Winter and 1.0 has been confirmed. The current roadmap still shows undated Future Plans beyond Winter, and Obsidian's stated 1.0 conditions are broader than any one seasonal column, so treating Winter as full release is speculation.

What is in Future Plans?

The current Future Plans include further Abyss expansion, another concealed park item, more Buggies, creatures, bosses and Colossi, additional progression/gear, Base Moving, building work, new Playgrounds toolsets and more language/voice support. These items have no single release window and should be treated as longer-term plans rather than one promised update.

Official plan[S04]Roadmap →
Is Base Moving confirmed?

Yes.

Base Moving appears in the current longer-term Future Plans. It is not live today and the roadmap does not yet explain the exact rules, cost or limitations, so it should be described as a confirmed plan rather than a defined mechanic.

Official plan[S04]Roadmap →
Are more Buggies confirmed after Fall?

Yes.

The current roadmap continues to list more Buggies after the Fall Potato Beetle Buggy. It does not establish every future Buggy family or delivery order, so specific community guesses should stay separate from the confirmed plan for additional Buggies.

What happened to New Archetypes?

New Archetypes were listed on earlier roadmap states but are no longer shown on the current roadmap. That means the item is no longer an active visible commitment; it does not prove the idea was cancelled, folded into other work or permanently abandoned.

Are weather or seasons on the roadmap?

No current roadmap item confirms a weather or seasons system. Artwork, environmental concepts and community wishlists can inspire theories, but they are not enough to promote weather into a planned feature.

06 / Buying, accessibility & requirements

Buying, accessibility & requirements

Price, editions, accessibility, languages, hardware and age-rating questions.

How much does Grounded 2 cost?

Price depends on region and storefront. At the latest evidence snapshot, Steam US listed the base game at $29.99 and Xbox UK listed £24.99; because storefront prices, sales and exchange rates change, the live store is the authoritative purchase check.

Confirmed[S09]
What does the Founder's Edition include?

The Founder's Edition includes the base game, four premium character skins with custom emotes, plus the digital artbook and soundtrack. The extras are cosmetic/digital bonuses and do not provide stronger gear, progression advantages or exclusive gameplay systems.

Confirmed[S11][S08]
Does Grounded 2 have microtransactions or virtual currency?

Obsidian's published FAQ says Grounded 2 has no in-game purchases or virtual currency. Separate paid editions/add-on packs can still exist at the storefront level, so 'no microtransaction currency' should not be misread as 'there can never be any paid DLC or edition upgrade'.

Confirmed[S08]
Will Grounded 2 get more expensive?

Likely, yes.

Steam says the Early Access price is lower and will probably rise as the game approaches 1.0. No final 1.0 price or date for a price change has been announced.

Developer intent[S09]
Does Grounded 2 have Arachnophobia Safe Mode?

Yes.

Arachnophobia Safe Mode is part of Grounded 2's accessibility offering, continuing the series' approach of reducing spider-like visual characteristics rather than simply removing all spider encounters. The exact presentation can be adjusted through the accessibility settings.

Confirmed[S11][S02]
Is there a Thalassophobia mode for underwater content?

No dedicated first-party Thalassophobia mode has been established in the current evidence. Underwater content is now a major part of Grounded 2, but community requests for a water/fear accessibility mode should not be represented as an announced feature.

Unknown[S11]
What languages are supported?

Grounded 2 supports a broad set of interface/subtitle languages, while full audio support is more limited. Storefront language lists can change and indexed summaries have not always agreed on counts, so the safest public treatment is to use the current live storefront rather than hard-code a total language number.

Confirmed[S09][S04]
What are the current PC system requirements?

Steam currently lists Windows 10/11, 16 GB RAM and 40 GB storage for both tiers. Minimum hardware is Ryzen 5 2600 or i5-8400 with RX 5700, GTX 1070 or Arc A580; recommended is Ryzen 5 5600X or i7-10700K with RX 6800 XT or RTX 3080.

Confirmed[S09]
What age rating does Grounded 2 have?

Ratings vary by region. The current UK Xbox listing carries PEGI 12, while the ESRB rates Grounded 2 Teen in North America with Blood and Fantasy Violence; parents should use the rating system for their own country rather than treating one regional label as universal.

Confirmed[S42][S43]
Why does the Xbox store say 'offers in-app purchases' if Obsidian says there are no in-game purchases or virtual currencies?

They are not necessarily contradictory. Obsidian's FAQ says there is no in-game virtual currency or in-game purchase system, while a storefront can flag that a product page has paid add-ons, edition upgrades or other purchasable content outside the game economy.

Is there a Grounded Creator Program?

Yes.

Obsidian runs a Grounded Creator Program intended to work with eligible content creators. The programme can offer keys/beta access, developer feedback, events and promotional opportunities, but applications can open or close as the programme changes.

Confirmed[S16]
What accessibility options are confirmed in Grounded 2?

The launch accessibility baseline includes Arachnophobia Safe Mode, colourblind options, customisable subtitles, Read to Me narration, adjustable reticle/control settings and other presentation/input options. Because accessibility work can evolve during Early Access, the in-game menu and current support material are the best check for the exact option set on your platform.

Confirmed[S11][S08]
07 / Story & lore basics

Story & lore basics

The sequel setting and the major names, programmes and mysteries players keep encountering.

When does Grounded 2 take place?

Grounded 2 is set in 1992, two years after the events of Grounded. The time jump lets the sequel carry forward the original teens and Ominent/Tully history while moving the action from the backyard into Brookhollow Park and a new phase of Ominent research.

Confirmed[S12]
Is Grounded 2 a direct sequel?

Yes.

It is a direct sequel with returning protagonists and continuity from Grounded, but Obsidian also designed it to onboard people who did not finish the first game. That means the surface-level survival adventure can stand alone while the deeper mysteries reward prior knowledge.

Confirmed[S12][S13]
Who is the Masked/Mysterious Stranger?

The Masked/Mysterious Stranger is an active antagonist tied to O.R.C. systems and anti-Ominent activity, but her true identity remains unrevealed in the released evidence. The game gives enough continuity clues to support theories, but not enough to turn any one identity theory into canon.

Is the Masked Stranger the fifth kid?

Unconfirmed.

The strongest continuity theory is that the Masked Stranger is Grounded's unaccounted-for fifth shrunken kid, because the first game establishes that missing person and Grounded 2 gives the Stranger knowledge/links that make the connection plausible. The released story still does not explicitly identify her, so the theory must remain labelled as a hypothesis.

Hypothesis[S29][S30]
What is O.R.C.?

O.R.C. is a long-running Ominent control system built around receiver/transmitter technology used on creatures, and Grounded 2 shows that network still operating in 1992. No official acronym expansion is confirmed in the released evidence, so back-forming it as 'Ominent Remote Control' would overstate the canon.

Confirmed[S29][S06]
What is O.G.R.R.?

O.G.R.R. is identified in-game as Ominent's Genetic Recombination Research, a 1992 programme experimenting with creature enhancement. It is distinct from O.R.C.: O.G.R.R. is a genetics/recombination research programme, while O.R.C. is a control/network system.

In-game record[S31]
Are O.R.C. and O.G.R.R. the same thing?

No.

O.R.C. and O.G.R.R. are separate Ominent systems with different purposes and histories. O.R.C. concerns control/receiver networks; O.G.R.R. concerns genetic recombination and enhanced organisms, even though both can intersect in the same wider Ominent infrastructure.

Contradicted[S29][S31]
What is Tang?

Tang is a sour, experiment-linked corruption that spreads through soil, water and creatures in Grounded 2. The game connects extreme flavours and Raw Science research, but it does not yet establish that Tang is simply Raw Science under another name or fully explain its chemistry.

Confirmed[S20][S30]
What is the Park Project?

The Park Project is the umbrella Ominent programme operating secret research and infrastructure in and beneath Brookhollow Park. Current records connect it to multiple specialised programmes, monitoring and experiments rather than one single lab or technology.

In-game record[S30]
Is BURG.L still part of the story?

Yes.

BURG.L remains part of the current story/progression, including the live objective around finding BURG.L's head. Patch 0.5.0.5 specifically fixed a blocker affecting that objective on some saves, which confirms it remains part of active progression.

Confirmed[S01]
Does Grounded 2 follow Grounded 1's good ending?

Grounded 2's continuity strongly aligns with the evidence-retrieval/'good' ending of Grounded, because the sequel carries forward consequences that fit that outcome. However, no current developer statement explicitly names that Grounded ending as 'canon', so the continuity alignment is stronger evidence than the label itself.

Inference[S12][S29]
08 / Performance & known issues

Performance & known issues

How to interpret crashes, networking problems and progression blockers in a moving Early Access build.

What are the biggest current technical issues?

The highest-signal current technical areas include performance, intermittent crashes/stability, long-distance co-op latency and several input/environment issues tracked by Obsidian. Early Access means this list changes frequently, so a specific problem should always be checked against both the latest patch notes and the current Issue Tracker.

Confirmed[S02]
Are crashes fixed?

No.

Many specific crashes have been fixed, including work in 0.5.0.5, but stability remains an active support category and Obsidian has not declared the game crash-free. A fix for one crash signature should not be generalised into an all-clear for every platform and save.

Confirmed[S01][S02]
Is long-distance co-op latency fixed?

Not fully.

Long-distance co-op latency/low-framerate behaviour remains an official issue/future-fix area in the governed evidence. Until a patch explicitly resolves it, players should treat it as an active networking/performance risk rather than assume later general optimisation fixed it indirectly.

Confirmed[S02]
Can saves become blocked by story progression bugs?

Yes, specific story/progression blockers have occurred during Early Access, and multiple patches have repaired affected saves. The important practical rule is to check the named blocker against the newest patch notes and Issue Tracker, because a historical bug may already be fixed while a different progression issue remains active.

Are missing Pond Optical Discs still broken?

The first-party sources conflict. Patch 0.5.0.5 says affected saves were fixed so missing Pond Optical Disc items could be retrieved, while the mutable Issue Tracker still carried the corresponding issue state; until the tracker chronology catches up or a later patch clarifies it, the conflict should be preserved rather than hidden.

Source conflict[S01][S02]
Is the BURG.L's Head objective still blocked?

Patch 0.5.0.5 explicitly says it fixed the BURG.L's Head progression blocker on affected saves. If a player still encounters the problem on the current build, that should be treated as a possible regression or separate case and reported rather than assumed to be the same unfixed bug.

Confirmed[S01]
Where should players report bugs?

Use Obsidian's Community Issue Tracker and official support flow. Check whether the problem already has a tracked card, include your platform/version and reproducible steps, and distinguish an old issue from a regression on the newest build.

09 / Rumours & common misconceptions

Rumours & common misconceptions

High-circulation claims that should not be promoted into fact without stronger evidence.

Is the Fall update officially called Rot and Ruin?

Not confirmed. Community reports say 'Rot and Ruin' won the naming vote, but the available first-party material confirms the vote and its options rather than a definitive winning result; until Obsidian publishes or preserves that result clearly, the Fall update should not be renamed as fact.

Is the hidden Winter biome definitely Sandbox/Sandpit?

No.

Sandbox/Sandpit is a recurring theory for the concealed Winter park area, not an official reveal. The current roadmap intentionally hides the area's identity, so ecology or map-shape guesses remain speculation until Obsidian names it.

Are Antlions confirmed for Grounded 2's future?

No current first-party roadmap or update announcement confirms Antlions for Grounded 2's future. They may appear in community concepts or reported file signals, but those signals are not equivalent to a shipping commitment.

Are New Archetypes cancelled?

No cancellation is confirmed. 'New Archetypes' appeared on earlier roadmap states and is absent from the current one; the defensible conclusion is 'no longer listed', not 'cancelled', because it could have been deprioritised, renamed, absorbed into another system or dropped.

Was Smoothies 2.0 scrapped?

No first-party cancellation has been captured for Smoothies 2.0. It was visible on earlier roadmap states and disappeared later, so its current disposition is unresolved rather than safely described as scrapped.

Do reported datamined assets prove future content?

No.

Datamined assets can be prototypes, test content, inherited files, abandoned experiments or work planned for a different release. They can generate useful questions to watch, but they are not confirmed future content without independent evidence from a released build or accountable first-party source.

Evidence rule: popularity can decide which question deserves an answer; it cannot turn a rumour into a fact. Where first-party sources conflict, the FAQ preserves the conflict instead of silently choosing whichever answer is more convenient.
