The ceremony disaster shrinks the original four again

Grounded 2 opens two years after the first game at a public Brookhollow Park ceremony honouring Pete, Max, Willow, Hoops, BURG.L and Dr Tully. An explosion throws the event into chaos; BURG.L is attacked, the teens end up tiny again, and the mystery becomes who caused it and why. P00 P01 P02

The opening gives the sequel its central questions without resolving the mechanism behind the second shrinking or Wendell’s apparent loss of control.

The teens move through Ominent’s hidden park infrastructure and confront the Stranger

The released story takes the returning teens through Ominent facilities and network infrastructure while the Mysterious / Masked Stranger emerges as an active antagonist. First-party patch notes explicitly reference the Confront the Stranger quest and the Network Center becomes a major story threshold. P07 P11

What the game establishes early is the Stranger’s capability and hostility towards Ominent; her identity and long-term objective remain withheld.

The Garden and Field Archives connect flavour research, BURG.L and the Stranger conflict

The Garden/Archive chain exposes Project Key Lime, GROW.R, the Super Sour Seed and the Tang Banger, then uses those threads to reach the Ominent Field Archives. G2A G2SOUR G2TB

The Archive also becomes a convergence point for BURG.L-related material and a direct confrontation involving the O.R.C. Broodmother and the Stranger. That makes it one of the clearest places where Ominent’s older research, current corruption and the personal mystery overlap.

Into the Abyss moves the mystery into Ominent’s Raw Science reservoir

After the Network Center, the 0.5 story sends the player towards Skunk Pond and the deeper Ominent facilities below it. P11

There the story introduces the unstable Raw Science reservoir, large-scale processing experiments, Employee 555’s systematic erasure and evidence that old SPAC.R trial records were destroyed. The update expands the conspiracy rather than resolving it.

The current story is deliberately incomplete

Obsidian described Game Preview launch content as essentially Act 1 and said the story would become thicker and deeper towards 1.0. P02

That matters when reading every redaction and identity clue on this page: the released story is designed to leave major answers open, so absence of a reveal is not evidence for whichever theory fits best.

Grounded 2 is a direct continuation

First-party material places the sequel in 1992, two years after Grounded, with Pete, Max, Willow and Ally “Hoops” Nguyen returning as the playable teens. Brookhollow Park is a new location, but the scientific and institutional history is the same. P01 P02

Does Grounded 2 canonise Grounded’s “good ending”?

The continuity strongly follows the broad result of the evidence-retrieval ending: the teens are publicly recognised as victims, Tully receives public credit, Ominent’s wrongdoing is known, and the ceremony is explicitly framed as a commemoration of the original incident. P00

What has not been located is a first-party statement literally saying “the good ending is canon”. The responsible formulation is that Grounded 2 follows the consequences of that ending, not that Obsidian used that exact canon label.

Ominent was exposed — but it did not disappear

Grounded’s ending can expose Schmector and specific illegal research while Ominent survives as an institution. Grounded 2 proves that distinction: by 1992 the company operates facilities, networks, archives, laboratories, secret-science divisions and strategically valuable assets across Brookhollow Park. G1 G2

That continuity is important because it prevents a false “retcon” reading. The sequel is showing institutional survival, not necessarily undoing the original exposure.

The fifth shrunken person is real evidence, not just a visual theory

A torn note in Grounded says its writer woke with four other kids, tried to wake them and left them sleeping in the Kid Case while seeking safety. The five human-shaped slots in the case and a separate camp with the Deuces Sign reinforce that chain. G1 G1K G1D

The evidence still gives no name, gender, exact age or 1992 identity. The fifth-person trail is therefore canon; “fifth kid = Masked Stranger” is not.

Raw Science is a physical phenomenon, not merely a currency

Grounded repeatedly ties Raw Science to SPAC.R’s particle irregularities, containment and embiggening problems, material enhancement, biological growth and mutation, and Project MANT. On 21 December 1989 Tully explicitly records Raw Science as a catalyst for growth and change. G1

Grounded 2 then extends that model rather than replacing it: Ominent has a dedicated Raw Science Research Division and attempts large-scale processing of plasmic SNPI-42Z.

Its ultimate origin remains unknown

Both games establish what Raw Science does more confidently than where it ultimately comes from. Tully himself never resolves its true origin, and Grounded 2’s fissures/reservoir deepen the question rather than closing it. G1 G2

Dalton Schmector is the key Grounded-era corporate figure

Schmector attends Tully’s failed 1988 SPAC.R demonstration, later becomes associated with Project O.R.C., and is tied to Ominent efforts to replicate or weaponise the underlying science. A covert expedition member records him pitching O.R.C. as future warfare technology. G1

Grounded 2 has not yet established his post-Grounded institutional fate. That absence matters: Sloane Beaumont’s 1992 programme should not be treated as if Schmector is still visibly running it.

Project O.R.C. predates the Masked Stranger

Late-1989 records describe O.R.C. receivers, covert groundwork and military interest. Grounded gameplay depicts controlled creatures with physical receiver hardware. The technology therefore has a clear Schmector-era lineage. G1

The function is established; the official expansion of the letters O.R.C. is not. Do not back-form an acronym from “remote control”.

The teen experiments connect the playable cast to Ominent

The Grounded opening establishes four missing teens who awaken shrunken with incomplete memory; the Ominent Data Disk later contains a Raisining Teen Trials project alongside SPAC.R replication and embiggening research. At campaign level, the protagonists’ miniaturisation is therefore tied to Ominent experimentation rather than accidental contact with Tully’s backyard science. G1

Exact quantities of earlier subjects or transport details should still be treated claim-by-claim unless directly captured.

Sloane Beaumont is a senior operational authority

1992 orientation material has Sloane identify herself as staff members’ new boss, explain that Ominent conducts research in and underneath Brookhollow Park, and instruct employees to protect secret assets, proprietary data and operational security. G2

Her records establish operational authority and ethically troubling programme oversight; they do not establish that she caused the ceremony explosion, ordered the teens shrunk or is related to the Masked Stranger.

Buggies have an in-world research lineage

An 8 June 1992 log says a researcher is beginning what Sloane described as the company’s first insect-taming initiative, with black ants among the early targets. Buggies are therefore not simply a gameplay abstraction: domestication is embedded in Ominent’s research agenda. G2

Ominent is actively mining Tully’s archive

A 27 July 1992 note records a researcher retrieving Tully’s archived backyard agricultural research and explicitly credits him as the inventor of SPAC.R. The Park Project is therefore not merely thematically similar to the original game; it is directly reusing Tully-era material. G2

Project Key Lime is a real Ominent research project

Shipped records identify Project Key Lime as a Garden-team effort to grow an extremely sour key lime. A 16 October 1992 directive warns that the project is continuing despite orders to stop. G2 G2A

That establishes the project and its internal controversy. It does not establish who originally authorised it, why the stop order was ignored or whether every later sour phenomenon in the park comes from the same programme.

GROW.R and the Super Sour Seed are part of the same quest chain

The released Archive storyline uses a genetically engineered Super Sour Seed with the GROW.R laser array as part of the Project Key Lime chain. G2A G2SOUR

The evidence supports that observed relationship; it does not supply a safe acronym expansion for GROW.R or make the seed interchangeable with Tang, O.G.R.R. material or Raw Science.

The Tang Banger links flavour research to access — not to Tang’s identity

A Tang Banger is used in the story to clear the gunk blocking access to the Ominent Field Archives. G2A G2TB

That makes it a concrete bridge between Garden research and the Archive plot, but the tool’s name and ingredients do not prove that environmental Tang is simply “liquid Raw Science” or that every sour technology shares one composition.

The Field Archives contains a BURG.L Mark IV OS chip — not a solved BURG.L identity

The Archive storyline identifies a BURG.L OS Chip associated with a Mark IV grilling-robot model. G2A

This is important because the ceremony leaves BURG.L physically decapitated and his later state is a major mystery. But the chip is still an Ominent-held operating-system artifact: the released evidence does not establish that it contains BURG.L’s complete memories, personality or consciousness.

The Archive becomes a direct Stranger confrontation point

First-party patch material confirms an Archive arena involving the O.R.C. Broodmother and the Mysterious Stranger. The shipped-game transcript layer additionally uses Masked Fighter for the Stranger’s stronger combat-form label. P05 G2M

“Masked Fighter” is therefore best treated as a combat-form label for the same unresolved character, not a second person or a newly revealed true identity.

The reservoir is part of the Park Project, not an unrelated dungeon

Current 0.5 evidence describes a Raw Science reservoir tied to the underwater monitoring complex. Sloane’s evacuation order moves the Raw Science Research Division somewhere safer until the reservoir can be stabilised, leaving maintenance robots behind. P09 P10 G2

That makes the Abyss a physical extension of Ominent’s 1992 research infrastructure beneath the pond.

Employee 555 is a major unresolved internal-Ominent mystery

A cluster of 0.5 records orders the redaction of 555’s dossier, door-access and robot-conversation logs; destruction of material at desk 555; and top-clearance archiving of experiment/surveillance data. Other notes say “555 has the truth” and that people are beginning to think 555 was right. G2

A forgotten report also links reservoir particle accounting to destroyed records of old SPAC.R experimentation trials. This means the company is suppressing not just a person, but a strand of institutional history.

Tang is canonically Ominent-linked environmental corruption

Obsidian’s Toxic Tangle material says Ominent experiments produced a strange sour-linked corruption spreading through Brookhollow: staining soil, entering water and clinging to creatures. In-game records add the flavour/Raw Science/O.G.R.R. research chain behind that problem. P04 G2

What remains unknown is whether Tang is a deliberately engineered final product, an intermediate infusion, a containment failure/by-product or a broader family of related materials.

O.G.R.R. creatures are enhanced outcomes, not controlled variants

Official update material now refers directly to O.G.R.R. creatures, including the O.G.R.R. Toe Biter Leviathan. That gives the programme a first-party current-state anchor independent of transcript retrieval. P05 P08

An O.G.R.R. creature is an enhanced research outcome; an O.R.C. creature is receiver/transmitter-controlled. The same base species can have related variants without the labels describing the same mechanism.

She operates a functioning O.R.C. network

Into the Abyss states that her “heat” rises when players kill O.R.C.s, raid caches or deactivate transmission devices; at higher heat she can send an O.R.C. wave. The O.R.C. Beacon is described as luring mind-controlled creatures. P09

This safely establishes a current Stranger-operated control/raid network. It does not prove she invented O.R.C. or controls every O.R.C. system in the park.

“Subject V” is an implementation clue, not an identity reveal

An official Obsidian Issue Tracker record uses Subject V / V’s anger bar wording for a Stranger-linked O.R.C. encounter, while the public 0.5 notes describe the wider mechanic as the Mysterious Stranger’s heat. P11 P12

That strongly links the labels at a system level. It does not establish “Subject V” as her canonical true name, and it does not prove the fifth-kid theory simply because V can be read as five.

Her own notes show appropriation, engineering and sabotage

A 12 September note mocks Ominent and says she took what she needed. An 18 October task list references receivers, electrodes, wiring, an O.R.C. procedure, infusion/improvement testing and a converted force. G2

The safest conclusion is that she has appropriated, understood and modified Ominent technology.

Ominent has a detailed profile of a dangerous redacted female subject

A 14 October profile describes a technically gifted, anti-authority female subject capable of engineering workarounds competitive with Ominent staff. A 15 October security update links the same subject to O.R.C. specimens, surveillance points, breaches and unusual traversal. G2

Because the files do not name her, the best-supported reading is high-confidence interpretation: the profile is probably about the Masked Stranger, not objectively identified as her.

She knows Pete, Max, Hoops and Willow unusually well

Stranger-authored material contains individual ideas concerning all four returning teens and a draft asking one scratched-out recipient to leave “the other three” and join her. G2

That establishes targeted knowledge and a recruitment agenda. It does not establish which teen she meant, how she learned about them or whether she knew them personally in 1990.

Her technology reaches back into Grounded 1

Evidence around the Stranger includes O.R.C. engineering, modified weapons, access to Ominent infrastructure and a recipe that improves a flaming-sword concept from Tully’s backyard. She is unusually well positioned to connect unresolved Grounded material to the sequel. G2

That still does not tell us where she obtained her historical knowledge.

Ominent stages a public commemoration

The opening presents a statue-unveiling ceremony commemorating the four teens, BURG.L and Dr Tully on the two-year anniversary of their forced miniaturisation. The fictional news framing calls Ominent a “formerly evil” company. P00 G2C

This is unusually strong continuity evidence that the broad truth of Grounded’s conspiracy became public knowledge.

The explosion triggers a park-wide emergency

An Ominent situation report dated 20 October 1992 says the ceremony was cancelled because of an explosion, communications with other facilities failed and evacuation procedures activated across park installations. G2

The exact perpetrator and causal chain remain unknown.

Wendell violently removes BURG.L’s head

The opening depicts Tully decapitating BURG.L during the crisis. The playable world later contains Headless BURG.L, story progression involves recovering his head, and the Field Archives contain a mint-condition BURG.L Mark IV OS asset. P00 P08

That makes BURG.L part of the central mystery, not a legacy cameo.

Environmental evidence says Wendell was being controlled

A hidden podium/flashcard acrostic communicates that Wendell is being controlled. That is enough to make loss of agency a serious story fact, but not enough to name the controller or mechanism. G2C

O.R.C. is a plausible hypothesis because Grounded 2 simultaneously establishes a Stranger-operated creature-control network. The game has not shown that O.R.C. can control humans or that the Stranger caused this event.

Why are the teens tiny again?

First-party material explicitly frames the sequel around the same four becoming shrunken again and trying to discover what happened and why. P01 P02

The current story has not resolved the cause. Do not backfill it from the explosion, Ominent, the Stranger, Wendell’s apparent control or SPAC.R simply because those elements coexist.
