We Compared Every Grounded 2 Roadmap — Here’s What Changed and What Is No Longer Listed

The current Grounded 2 roadmap only shows where Obsidian says the game is going now. Compare it with the earlier versions and a much more interesting picture appears: features have shipped early, milestones have been added and split apart, broad concepts have become named systems — and three previously listed plans are no longer shown at all.

Since Grounded 2 entered Early Access in July 2025, its roadmap has changed several times.

Playgrounds moved out of a seasonal update and became its own release. An entirely new Spring update appeared after launch. Passive Mutations moved forward from an undated Future Plans list. Buggy progression and mutations were accelerated. The broad water-focused Summer update became Into the Abyss. Tier IV Omni-Tool progression has been spread across different stages.

Three named plans have taken a different path: Smoothies 2.0, New Archetypes and Active Mutations 2.0 are no longer on the current roadmap.

Obsidian has not publicly said those three were cancelled. The evidence supports a narrower conclusion: they were previously planned and are no longer listed.

Four roadmaps, four different versions of the plan

The easiest way to see how much changed is to put Grounded 2's major roadmap states next to each other.

29 July 2025 Fall → Winter → Summer → Future Plans Original Early Access plan

January 2026 Toxic Tangle → Playgrounds → Spring → Summer → Future Plans Playgrounds split out and Spring was added

June 2026 Playgrounds → Beat the Heat → Into the Abyss → Future Plans Generic milestones had become named releases

11 August 2026 Into the Abyss → Fall → Winter → Future Plans Year Two reset the visible future and dropped several older entries

That matters because an older Grounded 2 roadmap is not simply a less complete version of today's image. It preserves what Obsidian intended at that point in development.

The original July 2025 roadmap was comparatively conventional. Fall, Winter and Summer each contained groups of planned additions, followed by a large Future Plans column.

Fall was the cleanest example of that model. Much of its AXL content, Building Grid work, equipment and Buggy improvements arrived together in Hairy and Scary.

Winter was where that simple structure began to break apart.

Winter stopped being one update

The original Winter column included Playgrounds, Coziness, PEEP.R 2.0, the Ladybug Buggy, Tier III progression and a substantial creature and building expansion.

It did not all arrive together.

Obsidian introduced Feature Updates late in 2025, creating a route for systems and improvements that did not need to wait for the next traditional Content Update. The December Feature Update brought Coziness and PEEP.R 2K forward before the main Winter release.

Toxic Tangle followed on 27 January 2026 with the Community Garden, Ladybug Buggy, mutation overhaul and the larger Winter content package.

Playgrounds was separated again. What had originally appeared inside Winter became a standalone milestone and launched on 24 March.

By then, one useful rule had emerged: a roadmap column did not necessarily represent one future patch.

Features could be moved, split up or delivered through a different type of update.

Player feedback changed the order too

Some of those changes were deliberate responses to players.

The Grounded 2 team said in December 2025 that the reception to Buggies had led it to reassess how quickly more Buggy functionality could be brought online. Building feedback pushed in the other direction: players were less satisfied, and Obsidian said schedules were being changed to get more building work into the game sooner.

The January roadmap reflected that change in priorities.

A completely new Spring Update appeared between Playgrounds and Summer.

That milestone eventually became Beat the Heat, bringing the Black Soldier Ant Buggy, Buggy progression through Moldy Milk Molars, Buggy mutations, the Sinkhole Anthill and further building work.

Buggy progression and Buggy mutations had originally lived in the undated Future Plans column. They were now attached to a defined Spring delivery track.

Passive Mutations moved even further forward. They had also started in Future Plans, but arrived with Toxic Tangle.

That history is important when looking at anything that disappears from a roadmap. An item leaving its old position does not automatically mean it was abandoned. Grounded 2 has already moved some planned systems forward instead.

Summer changed shape on the way to Into the Abyss

The original Summer plan was deliberately broad.

It included a concealed new area, Swimming 2.0, Ziplines, watery creatures, underwater equipment and building, Tier IV progression and a generic “Watery Buggy.”

By June 2026, the same part of the roadmap looked very different.

Summer had become Into the Abyss. The Pond, Mountain and Bayou were named. PlayStation 5 had been added to the milestone. The generic watery Buggy had become the amphibious Toe Biter.

This was not a simple renaming exercise. The update's scope had developed and become more specific as it moved towards release.

Tier IV Omni-Tool progression shows the same kind of complexity. Some Tier IV progression exists in the current game, while the Year Two roadmap separately lists further Tier IV Omni-Tool unlocks for Winter.

So “Tier IV moved to Winter” would be misleading. Part of that progression has already arrived; more remains planned.

Three older roadmap items are no longer listed

The most interesting changes are the ones without a clean delivery story.

Three named plans from earlier versions of the roadmap are absent from the current Year Two image.

Smoothies 2.0 disappeared first

Smoothies 2.0 was originally attached to the Summer 2026 plan and remained visible in the January roadmap.

When the June roadmap transformed Summer into the much more detailed Into the Abyss milestone, Smoothies 2.0 was no longer there.

That proves the listing disappeared. It does not establish why.

New Archetypes survived until June

New Archetypes lasted longer.

It was part of the original Future Plans list and was still visibly present on the June 2026 roadmap.

It is absent from the August Year Two roadmap.

There is an important distinction here: Grounded 2's existing archetype concept has not been removed. Warrior, Ranger, Mage and Rogue remain part of the game's build/playstyle design.

The missing roadmap entry was New Archetypes — planned expansion of that concept — rather than the archetype system itself.

Active Mutations 2.0 followed the same path

Active Mutations 2.0 was also present in Future Plans from the original roadmap through the June 2026 version.

Like New Archetypes, it disappeared when the Year Two roadmap arrived in August.

Again, there is no public cancellation statement in the material we reviewed.

The cleanest current status for all three is:

previously listed → no longer listed → current status unexplained.

Anything stronger goes beyond what Obsidian has publicly established.

The roadmap still extends beyond Winter

The current Year Two roadmap now runs through Fall, Winter and a separate Future Plans column.

Fall is the next confirmed major update window. Winter carries another park expansion, a new story boss, further Buggy and creature work, more building content and additional Tier IV Omni-Tool progression.

Future Plans continue beyond that with further park and Abyss expansion, Buggy systems, creatures and bosses, equipment, Base Moving, building work, creator tools and other longer-term additions.

That matters for one common assumption: the current roadmap does not identify Winter as Grounded 2's 1.0 update.

It also deliberately conceals several future entries. Their categories may be visible, but their identities are not yet confirmed.
